It’s ON — the time of year when the House of Representatives uses its constitutional power of the purse to set its agenda. And next week, the U.S. defense and foreign policy agenda will be center stage.

There are hundreds of billions of dollars at stake, hundreds of amendments being considered, and just minutes of public discussion for each one.

This legislative process is a backroom lobbyist’s dream to push through huge arms sales and foreign government priorities — but equally just a small amount of public attention can have a HUGE impact.

We’ve been tracking hundreds of amendments — and these 5 are going to go down to the wire this week, and next week.

I am your constituent, and I strongly urge you to support or oppose the following amendments, so that we have a real chance at promoting progressive foreign policies this year!

Please SUPPORT these appropriations amendments to H.R. 2740 in the coming week:
—Rep. Jackie Speier (and others'), Rules #21, Amendment #14: Prevents DOD from spending funds to implement ban on open transgender service.
—Rep. Ted Lieu, Rules #44, Amendment #109: Late, Revised-Prohibits funds from being used to issue export licenses for any defense article or service as described in 22 enumerated certification transmittal documents designated by the Department of State.

Please OPPOSE these appropriations amendments to H.R. 2740 in the coming week:
—Rep. Liz Cheney, Floor #47, Amendment #49: Increases funding for the Weapons Procurement, Navy account by $19.6 million in order to restore funding within the DoD bill for the W76-2 warhead called for by the 2018 Nuclear Posture Review to counter Russia’s advantage in tactical nuclear weapons and escalate to deescalate strategy.
—Reps. Michael Burgess and Jason Smith, Floor #64, Amendment #9. Strikes Section 108 in Division E that prohibits any funding being used for border security infrastructure along the southern border. 
—Reps. Gary Palmer and Jeff Duncan, Floor #91, Amendment #56: Strikes the paragraph that prevents the U.S.' withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement and strikes the paragraph that allows for payments for the agreement.

It is long past due to prioritize diplomatic and political solutions to the world’s crises, not more wasteful Pentagon spending and violence-first foreign policies. Please support progressive foreign policy votes this week and next week!
