Stop Trump’s move to war with Iran

Congress is back and we have no time to waste. We must tell our lawmakers loudly and clearly: we don’t want war with Iran. Tell Congress: don’t kill the Iran deal!

Dear Senator/Representative,

If we let Donald Trump kill the Iran nuclear deal, we’ll have a crisis on our hands with Iran similar to the one we’re dealing with today in North Korea. That’s why I strongly urge you to reject the Trump administration’s attempts to politicize intelligence on the Iran nuclear agreement, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, and lead America back on a path to war with Iran. The truth is that the the agreement has successfully blocked Iran’s pathways to a nuclear weapon and created one of the most intrusive inspection regimes of any nonproliferation agreement ever negotiated, resolving a major conflict between Iran and the international community through negotiation rather than military force.

Top Trump administration intelligence and military officials have testified that Iran is complying with the agreement and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has issued seven reports verifying Iranian compliance.

Without the nuclear agreement, we’ll lose constraints on Iran’s nuclear program -- just like we did with North Korea during the Bush administration -- and dealing with Iran will become much more challenging. The United States will no longer have leverage over any Iranian actions short of the threat of use of force. We witnessed what that looked like during eight years of the Bush administration. It was only a unified international effort combined with an open hand for negotiations from the United States that rolled back Iran’s nuclear program.

Finally, I strongly oppose a war with Iran, which would likely be even more devastating than the Iraq war. Iran is twice the population of Iraq and four times its size. Thus, I urge you to strongly consider the implications of a US withdrawal from the Iran deal, especially one based on zero rational reasons to do so. I look forward to hearing from you.
