Tell your Representative to sign the Conyers - Massie bill on North Korea!

Donald Trump’s heated rhetoric has greatly heightened the potential for miscalculation and war. Fortunately, Reps. John Conyers (D-MI) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) will soon introduce bipartisan legislation that makes clear that ONLY CONGRESS -- not Donald Trump -- has the authority to declare war with North Korea.

Rep. Conyers’ and Massie’s bill, called the ‘No Unconstitutional Strike on North Korea Act,’ would add a safeguard against Trump’s ability to launch a war or take an unprovoked military action against North Korea by blocking the military from using any money for such an action unless authorized by Congress first.

These last few months have scared us all. Fight back by taking two minutes to ask your Representative to sign the Conyers-Massie bill to help prevent a war with North Korea.

I am writing to ask you to become a co-sponsor of the “No Unconstitutional Strike on North Korea Act,” sponsored by Rep. John Conyers (D-MI15) and Thomas Massie (R-KY04). This legislation would add a safeguard against Trump’s ability to launch a war or take an unprovoked military action against North Korea by restricting all funds for such an action unless authorized by Congress first.

While Donald Trump is legally prohibited by the U.S. Constitution and the War Powers Resolution of 1973 from attacking North Korea unless the United States is attacked first or threatened with an imminent attack by North Korea, I am afraid that this is not enough to keep us safe from Trump’s warmongering. I believe that Congress can and should do more to assert its authority and send a message, loud and clear, that it will not support an unauthorized war with North Korea.
