Win Without War

Secretary Blinken: Ban weapons sales to Saudi Arabia and the UAE

We’ve spent the last five years organizing against some of the most powerful forces in Washington to end U.S. complicity for the Saudi- and Emirati-led war in Yemen. We’re seeing the fruits of that labor start to pay off: President Biden has issued a temporary freeze on Trump-initiated weapons deals to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

This freeze is a cause for celebration — and it’s long overdue. U.S. arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the UAE have killed so many. U.S.-made weapons have regularly been used to massacre families in Yemen, been given to violent non-state actors in Yemen and Libya, and have only served to fuel the violent conflict.

We CAN’T stop now. Let’s keep up the pressure until newly confirmed Secretary of State Antony Blinken makes this freeze a permanent BAN.

To Secretary Blinken:

It’s time to put human rights before the profits of weapons manufacturers. The people of the United States want an end to unaccountable weapons sales to human rights abusers.

President Biden’s temporary freeze is a positive step toward accountability, but to fully fulfill his campaign promises, this administration must stop arming unaccountable authoritarian governments for good. I urge you to enact a permanent ban on arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
