Win Without War

Tell Biden to speak up for the ‘02 AUMF repeal!

Before this year ends, Congress is going to push through a bunch of legislation. And whenever Congress, or anyone for that matter, scrambles to finish their work under a tight deadline, things fall through the cracks and things get lost in the shuffle.

We don’t have to remind you how important it is to repeal the 2002 Authorization for the Use of Military Force (’02 AUMF) — the war authority for the ’03 Iraq invasion that is STILL on the books in the year 2022. And the ’02 AUMF could still be hanging for a long time to come, available for a future president to misuse and start new wars in the Middle East, unless we remind our elected officials that this year is the year to get repeal done.

President Biden has already signaled that he will sign the repeal.

When the president talks, Congress listens — especially to a president whose party just defied expectations and held off significant losses in the midterms. There’s wind in the sail, and Biden’s cruising. If President Biden speaks out and says he wants the ‘02 AUMF repealed right now, there’s a strong chance congressional leaders take his message to heart and we get this done.

The fact that we’re so close tells you just how much work has happened *outside* of Congress to win approval *inside*: years of marches, rallies, petitions, calls, reports, lobbying meetings, and activist pressure have brought us to this moment. Many of you have been with us along the way. Now, can you help us keep up the pressure and get an ’02 AUMF repeal across the finish line?
