Tell Congress to cut the Pentagon budget

People around the country have had to readjust their budgets in light of the pandemic and it’s time for the Pentagon to do the same. Now that we’ve passed the grim milestone of losing more people in the United States to the COVID-19 pandemic than we did in WWII - it’s clear that the biggest security challenges of our time from pandemics to climate change don’t have military solutions.

We need to bring our security thinking into the twenty-first century, cut the pentagon budget, and reinvest those resources into strategies that genuinely make us all safer.

More Americans have now died in the COVID-19 crisis than did in WWII. Yet instead of doubling down to fight the pandemic and help the people struggling from its economic fallout, the country’s budget priorities remain trained on enlarging the Pentagon budget. The current crisis has made clear that today’s biggest security challenges from pandemics to climate change don’t have military solutions.

As part of the major reprioritization of the federal budget away from militarism and toward human and environmental needs, we urge you to support a reduction to the Pentagon budget of at least 10%. Families across this country have had to adjust their budgets in light of the pandemic - it’s time the Pentagon does the same.
