With hateful rhetoric reaching a fever pitch, it’s time to dig in our heels and recommit to ending the rampant racism in our immigration and asylum debates.
The good news? A resolution led by Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX-35) holds up a mirror to a U.S. “security” strategy, revealing how, all too often, it prioritizes profit and war over justice and people ― and calls on Congress to turn the tables against hate and violence.
The Migration Stability Resolution is a critical first step in turning the page on this broken status quo. This resolution lays out a framework for sweeping policy changes to welcome people who want to build their lives in the United States while ensuring that ― from arms sales to climate policy and beyond ― the U.S. government works to avoid the kinds of conditions that force people from their homes and communities in the first place.
By building support around this resolution, Congress can begin to do the urgent work necessary to push back on hateful anti-immigrant rhetoric, review harmful U.S. policies that drive the political and economic instability in other countries, and open more legal pathways for migration and citizenship.
Advancing this resolution, and passing subsequent comprehensive legislation that makes its calls for change a reality, will be anything but easy. It’ll take ALL of us speaking out, at every turn, to generate the kind of pressure that gets us there — that starts today. Please add your name now!
