On the campaign trail this summer, former president Trump confirmed that if re-elected, military strikes against drug cartels in Mexico are "absolutely" still on the table — and, disturbingly, he's not alone:
The terrifying reality is that a reckless idea to bomb Mexico has gained alarming support among Republican lawmakers and candidates alike. Before they dropped out of the race, almost every other 2024 Republican presidential hopeful endorsed some version of unilateral military action in Mexico. A MAGA-aligned think tank has drafted a blueprint for a "defensive war" against cartels that Trump has reportedly been briefed on. And a small but persistent contingent in Congress seems hell-bent on making this disastrous idea a reality.
Thankfully, Rep. Joaquin Castro led the introduction of H.Res.763, “The No War With Mexico Resolution” to reaffirm the U.S. commitment to respecting Mexican sovereignty and condemn calls for military strikes in response. The problem? It currently has just 33 cosponsors.
That’s where you come in. To silence the hawks, we’ll need to make sure our calls for peace get and stay loud. Can you help build the support necessary to stop this bad idea in its tracks by reaching out to your representative today? Urge them to co-sponsor H.Res.763 and vocally oppose any ideas for U.S. military action in Mexico.
