Trump broke his campaign promises and made a bet that war would be a political win. But with every act of protest, petition signature, and call to Congress, we showed him how wrong he was.
In the face of immediate, loud, and organized opposition to his deeply unpopular war — thanks in part to the vocal leadership of Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA), who introduced war powers resolutions (WPRs) in Congress to pull us off the path toward war — Trump has, for now, decided to avoid further escalation.
We’re grateful to Sen. Kaine and Rep. Khanna for their leadership, for standing up for the Constitution and the will of the people in the face of an erratic, war-mongering White House. This is the type of leadership we need to combat rising authoritarianism as Trump uses war to not only terrorize communities abroad, but deepen chaos at home.
We’ll need more of it in the days, weeks, and months to come. That’s why we want to send a message of gratitude to Sen. Kaine and Rep. Khanna — both to let them know they’re not alone in advocating for peace, and to show other lawmakers that there is a mass movement of supporters around the country ready to have their backs, empowering them to do the same.
