The tide has turned on Trump’s illegal, disastrous war on Iran, and if we have anything to say about it, there’ll be nothing he or Speaker Mike Johnson can do to stop it.
In the waning moments before the House left for Memorial Day recess, Speaker Johnson pulled Rep. Gregory Meeks’ war powers resolution (WPR), which would terminate hostilities against Iran’s government, from the floor — flexing a cowardly, procedural move because he didn’t have the votes to stop it.
Rep. Meeks’ resolution would have passed if it had been voted on. And it’s not just the House where momentum is building: Just days before that, a bipartisan coalition in the Senate also advanced Senator Tim Kaine’s WPR, 50-47.
Margins in Congress are narrow — the last WPR vote in the House failed on a 212-212 tie. We can’t afford to give up any ground when we’re so close. With crucial war powers votes expected in both chambers this week, we need you to help keep the pressure on.
