Win Without War

Elon Musk, Anduril, and Pete Hegseth. What could go wrong?

Did you know that AI almost started a war?

According to CNN, U.S. forces were moments from intercepting a Chinese ship believed to be transporting nuclear weapons components in the Middle East earlier this spring. Troops were preparing to board. U.S. military planes circled in the skies above. Then, mere moments before the operation was set to begin, officials realized the report the mission relied on was generated with the help of AI — and was entirely false.

Unfortunately, Hegseth remains dead-set on accelerating the Pentagon’s AI dominance. He just appointed Newt Gingrich, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, and Anduril co-founder Palmer Luckey to Project Meridian, a new Pentagon task force charged with achieving "absolute technological dominance on the next-generation battlefield."

Relying on AI for intelligence is dangerous enough. Hegseth would supercharge his “bomb first, ask questions later” mentality with AI weapons, exponentially increasing the risk of mistakes, violence, and even war.

Thankfully, key members of Congress are working to throw up the roadblocks that slow down Hegseth and keep people involved in life-or-death decisions.

The bipartisan Human Authority over Autonomous Weapons Act would ensure that no machine under U.S. military authority can be given the power to decide to kill a human being on its own. Unfortunately, months after its introduction, this common-sense bill has barely a handful of cosponsors.

That’s where you come in — let’s get this urgently needed bill on Congress’ radar. Sign now to urge your Rep. to support the Human Authority over Autonomous Weapons Act!

To members of the 119th House of Representatives:

As Defense Secretary Hegseth races to supercharge already dangerous weapons with tech and AI, we need to ensure people remain involved in life-or-death decisions. I urge you to cosponsor and work to pass the Human Authority over Autonomous Weapons Act so that no machine under U.S. military authority can be given the power to decide to kill a human being on its own.
