Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is planning to livestream a military firing squad execution of Nidal Malik Hasan in December.
This would be the first public U.S. execution in nearly a century. In an era where videos can be quickly and easily downloaded, shared, and manipulated, the repercussions are unimaginable. Elected officials and organizations across the political spectrum quickly condemned the move, including Win Without War.
Hegseth made this call — the latest in a long string of reckless, outrageous actions. Congress has a chance to respond, and soon:
In the coming weeks, the House is anticipated to vote on eight articles of impeachment against Secretary Hegseth introduced by Rep. Thomas Massie’s (R-KY). Both chambers are currently debating a number of vehicles — the National Defense Authorization Act, defense appropriations, budget reconciliation packages, and supplemental funding requests — that could bolster Hegseth’s Pentagon with an additional $1.5 TRILLION.
The clock is ticking to make our voices heard. Every lawmaker needs to hear a clear message: Hegseth must go and he shouldn’t get one more dime.
