A ceasefire between the U.S., Israeli, and Iranian governments is hanging on by a thread:
Peace talks held in Pakistan fell apart without an agreement in place to end the war. Days after Trump threatened genocide against the Iranian people, he has now ordered a naval blockade of Iran. And while the violence paused elsewhere, Israeli strikes have not stopped in Lebanon.
Congress’ failure to rein Trump in has only emboldened him to expand this disastrous, historically unpopular war. But as lawmakers return to Washington, they’ll have crucial opportunities to step in and save lives.
Votes on war powers resolutions (WPRs) are anticipated this week in both the House and the Senate. Previous votes fell short by razor-thin margins, and now, with violence likely to resume if the choice is left up to Trump, we must go all out to demand Congress get off the sidelines and stop war on Iran.
