We caught a glimpse of the world Trump and Musk want to build when Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested Mahmoud Khalil. 

Despite Khalil’s legal resident status as a green card holder and constitutional rights as a person in the United States, he was arrested and is currently facing deportation for exercising his right to free speech.

Neither his wife — who is eight months pregnant — nor his attorney were able to speak with him or informed of where he was taken in the days following his arrest. Reports indicate he is currently detained at the Central Louisiana ICE Processing Center, which the ACLU has recently documented cruel and inhumane treatment.

Since Khalil’s arrest, Trump and his MAGA cronies have taken to social media with a chilling message that this is only the beginning. Today, they are retaliating against pro-Palestinian activists, but make no mistake: They will not stop there. Everyone who opposes this administration and its policies is at risk — and that’s why it’s as important as ever that we join together to defend one another.

We will NOT allow this to become our new normal. It’s time to draw a line in the sand and rally together to oppose a U.S. president who would act like a despot and demand Khalil’s return home.
