Earlier this month, Trump’s new travel ban that had Stephen Miller’s handprints all over it went into effect— targeting nationals of 12 countries with sweeping bans plus partial restrictions for those from seven more. Now, it appears Miller and Co. were only getting started, as a new State Department memo lays out plans to ban people from an additional 36 nations in the coming days.
These bans are rooted in xenophobia, racism, and hatred that doesn’t make anyone safer. Many members of Congress have already spoken out against Trump’s and Miller’s latest travel ban, thanks in part to pressure from the tens of thousands of messages that were sent by supporters like you the moment the initial ban was announced. But words aren’t enough in this urgent moment.
That’s why we’re ready to recommit and push Congress to repeal these bigoted bans. The NO BAN Act will prevent future travel bans by prohibiting discrimination based on religion, limiting executive authority on immigration policy, and requiring congressional consultation on future attempts to restrict people’s travel.
This long overdue bill has steadily gained power since Rep. Judy Chu and Sen. Christopher Coons reintroduced it earlier this year. Today, your voice can help push it closer to passage — and send a crucial reminder of welcome and hope to people scrambling to save their futures.
