Millions of families have recently fled their homes with whatever they could carry or sheltered in place as they waited for bombs to fall. On October 1, that looked like over 180 missiles that the Iranian government launched on Israel. Before that, it was bombs the Netanyahu government dropped on residential neighborhoods in Lebanon while targeting Hezbollah leaders. It’s all an unnecessary escalation toward a region-wide war that we utterly condemn.

Too many people are again waking up terrified in the face of reports that the Israeli government is planning a ‘massive’ counterstrike — with U.S. support. Many of you reading have loved ones in Palestine, Israel, Iran, Lebanon, and beyond, including U.S. troops deployed to the region. This horrific cycle will not keep them safe, and we refuse to allow one more life — a journalist, a teacher, a parent, a child, anyone — to be lost to it.

There is no doubt that a lot of hawkish groups are talking to the White House right now, to say they think this strategy is working. We need to make sure there’s a counterbalance to those voices. That’s why our job is nothing short of ending the violence and stopping a region-wide war in the Middle East, and the solution is clear: CEASEFIRE.
