Win Without War

Let’s tip the dominoes to end endless war and repeal the 2002 AUMF!

Going to war is supposed to be hard, but for decades, president after president has used outdated congressional authorizations for use of military force (AUMFs) as blank checks to turn the world into a battlefield.

Take the 2002 AUMF. President Obama ended the war it authorized — the invasion of Iraq — *10 years* ago. But the AUMF remains in place and in effect for Biden or any future president as a ‘legal justification’ for drawing the United States into an unforeseen, unnecessary, and unauthorized conflict.

Repealing outdated AUMFs like these is how we’ll ultimately end ALL of our forever wars. And right now, there are legislative dominoes poised to fall for the first time in a decade that can help us end endless war. First up is Rep. Barbara Lee’s bill to repeal the 2002 AUMF — can you help it get past the finish line by writing your Representative now?

To members of the 117th Congress:

Congress can, and must, reaffirm its constitutional duties and reclaim the power to declare war from an overreaching executive branch. Repealing the 2002 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) is a necessary first step to ending our nation’s endless wars.

H.R. 256, Rep. Barbara Lee’s legislation to repeal the 2002 AUMF, is of critical importance and must be passed this year.

I ask you to do all you can to advance this urgently needed legislation — including co-sponsorship, support to bring H.R. 256 for an immediate vote on the House floor, and a vote to pass — and thank you for past support of this legislation.
