News broke yesterday that the Biden administration has been quietly negotiating with Iran to put a ceiling on its uranium enrichment and de-escalate the tensions between our two countries. And progress could come as soon as this summer. 

But now that this is all out in the open, the war hawks are circling. While Donald Trump created this current crisis with his failed ‘maximum pressure’ campaign, he’s a bit busy these days dealing with multiple indictments. Sadly, Washington never lacks for armchair generals eager to do everything they can to disrupt and destroy President Biden’s diplomacy to fix their failings. 

Donald Trump and the GOP’s disastrous maximum pressure policy of extreme sanctions and assassination of an Iranian general brought us dangerously close to the brink of war with Iran. And that policy rapidly accelerated the development of Iran’s nuclear program, which was constrained under the Iran Nuclear Deal. In every way possible, it was an absolute failure. 

But now the hawks are going to try to derail President Biden’s diplomacy and instead increase the extreme sanctions on Iran. When it comes to sanctions — everyday people are the ones who pay the price, not the ruling elites and the wealthy. We’ve tried both approaches with Iran before. What’s clear as day is that diplomacy worked where sanctions and violence failed. 

Will you speak up right now and tell President Biden that you support his diplomacy? Because if you don’t speak up now, other voices will speak for you. And they’ll drag us closer to another senseless war. The President is doing the right thing — let’s make sure his administration has the political space to get this done.
