Congress had an opportunity to speak for the people and reassert its constitutional authority over war. 259 lawmakers seized it by voting yes on a war powers resolution this week.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to overcome the 53 senators and 219 representatives who chose complicity and violence. But here’s the thing: Just EIGHT votes could’ve made the difference and passed bipartisan war powers resolutions to stop this unjustified war of choice that has killed hundreds, including six U.S. servicemembers.
This isn’t over; it’s likely just beginning. If we want to save lives and end the violence, we can’t afford to lose any members of Congress. One of the best ways to ensure the 259 who voted against war stay with us and help us grow our power? Gratitude.
