Win Without War

Tell Your Rep: It’s time to eliminate tax exempt status for major sports leagues

The Saudi government has rightly drawn worldwide condemnation for its actions, from fueling the war in Yemen to orchestrating the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi to executing 81 people in one day last March. Today, the Saudi government is working hard to sugarcoat that pattern of corruption and abuse with billion-dollar investments in high-profile international sports leagues, science, entertainment, and music.

It’s a strategy as clever as it is insidious.

Take the recent merger of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. With this merger the The Public Investment Fund, a state-owned investment fund run by Saudi Arabia has basically bought and paid for professional golf — along with an opportunity to associate itself with a beloved sport and a respected brand.

But what you might not realize is how YOU are helping them cover the costs of this dirty business, because the PGA Tour, like many other sports leagues, is a registered 501(c)(6) nonprofit. That means the PGA pays no income taxes on the BILLIONS in revenue it earns.

This fight just became about something much bigger than financial accountability. Now, it's about standing up against complicity in human rights abuses and refusing to allow the world of sports to be used as a tool for manipulation and propaganda. If we want to push back on Saudi “sportswashing” and corruption, we need a movement of people to show up now. Can you join in?

To members of the 118th Congress:

Eliminate tax exempt statuses for major sports leagues and make these multi-million dollar corporations finally pay what they owe. I urge you to support and pass the No Corporate Tax Exemption for Professional Sports Act (H.R. 3908).
