Whether it’s shareholder dividends, millions in campaign donations, job-creation schemes, or a revolving door into the Pentagon, the connections between weapons contractors and Congress are powerful, devastating, and reek of corruption.
Here’s one example: In 2021, 71% of Lockheed’s net sales came directly from the U.S. government. That means a HUGE share of Lockheed's $7.9 BILLION stock buybacks, dividends, and appreciated stock value were funded by — YOU.[1]
It’s all made possible by members of Congress who continue to funnel hundreds of billions of dollars to Lockheed and other weapons contractors.
97 members of Congress or their family members invested in weapons contractor stocks between 2019 and 2021. 25 of them sat on committees responsible for shaping national “security” policy while they traded.[2]
The consequences of this war profiteering are life or death. Unfortunately, the practice shows no signs of slowing: U.S. lawmakers made 96 transactions in weapons stocks last year, and eight of these purchases took place after October 7.[3]
It’s time to break this corrupt nexus. The good news is that we’ve got a crucial opportunity: Rep. Rashida Tlaib just introduced the Stop Politicians Profiting From War Act, a groundbreaking bill that would prohibit members of Congress, their spouses, and their dependent children from having financial interests in ANY company that does business with the Pentagon.
Politicians shouldn’t make money off wars they wage with our taxpayer dollars. If you agree, help us build power and support for this legislation by becoming a grassroots co-sponsor now. Let’s show the world we refuse to tolerate this deadly greed and corruption.
